2024 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT+ Buyer’s Guide [Specs, Price]

The 2024 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT+ is a middleweight sport-tourer that replaces the Tracer 9 GT. The engine, frame, and semi-active KYB suspension carry over, and the GT+ adds technology once found only on far more expensive touring bikes, led by radar-based adaptive cruise control.

A Millimeter Wave Radar unit lets the cruise control adjust speed as vehicles move into or out of the bike’s path, with four following-distance settings, slowing the bike with engine braking and then the brakes. Radar-Linked Unified Braking, a motorcycle industry first, adds braking force beyond the rider’s input once the brakes are applied. It is not a collision-avoidance system; it warns the rider on the dash and relies on the rider to brake.

The 890cc CP3 inline-3 comes from the MT-09. The bottom end is a bit soft, but the engine spins up eagerly into a strong midrange and a smooth top end, and fuel economy stays above 40 mpg. The 6-speed transmission has an assist-and-slipper clutch, and the updated quickshifter shifts up or down on or off the throttle, even with cruise control engaged.

The die-cast aluminum frame carries a semi-active KYB 41mm inverted fork and shock with two damping modes: A-1 is sportier, and A-2 is softer for comfort. Both hide rough pavement, and the Tracer feels like a lighter, smaller motorcycle in the corners.

Touring equipment is standard: 30-liter hard cases, a centerstand, heated grips, cornering lights, and a windscreen that adjusts with one hand. The handlebar has two mounting positions, the seat adjusts from 32.3 to 32.9 inches, and the footpegs have two positions.

A new 7-inch TFT display, controlled by a joystick, offers three layouts and connects to the MyRide-Link app; the Garmin Motorize app adds navigation by subscription. Sport, Street, Rain, and Custom modes manage the throttle map, suspension, cornering ABS, lean-sensitive traction control, slide control, and wheelie control.

Yamaha offers the Tracer 9 GT+ in Storm Gray for $16,499, for riders who want sport-touring comfort and technology with a naked bike’s agility.
