The 2024 Yamaha Ténéré 700 is a middleweight adventure bike with a dirt-ready chassis. In its fifth year of production, it gets a new TFT display, a three-mode ABS system, LED turn signals, and built-in wiring for an accessory quickshifter.
Power comes from the 689cc CP2 parallel twin shared with the MT-07. Its crossplane crankshaft gives it an uneven firing interval, and it is tuned for strong low-rpm performance. It has the grunt for slow off-road work, reaches 100 mph without fuss, and never vibrates offensively on long rides.
The Ténéré 700 keeps things simple. It has no ride-by-wire, IMU, power modes, traction control, or cruise control. The optional up-only quickshifter plugs into the existing wiring and works best at higher speeds.
ABS now has three settings: both wheels for pavement, front only, and fully off. Choosing off takes a few menu steps, and the system resets to full ABS when the key is turned off. Brembo calipers grip twin 282mm front discs.
The five-inch TFT is mounted vertically, rally style, with two display themes and a right-thumb scroll wheel. It pairs via Bluetooth with the Y-Connect smartphone app, which displays call and text notifications.
The chassis is built for the dirt, with 21-/18-inch wire-spoke wheels, Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires, and nearly fully adjustable KYB suspension with about eight inches of travel at each end. The action is plush, and the 452-pound Ténéré 700 never feels overwhelming off-road. On pavement, it is predictable in the twisties and adept at lane-splitting.
The 34.4-inch seat height is tall. Yamaha offers a low seat and a shock-linkage lowering kit to bring it down, as well as a taller one-piece Rally seat.
The Ténéré 700 is for riders who want a versatile, durable adventure bike that is as ready for the commute as it is for the trail. The 2024 Yamaha Ténéré 700 is priced at $10,799 in Team Yamaha Blue or Shadow Gray.
