The 2024 Harley-Davidson Road Glide is a major update to a bagger that debuted more than a quarter of a century ago. It gets a new engine, a new shark-nose fairing, a TFT display, upgraded suspension, and a 16-pound weight loss, and it replaces the Road Glide Special.
The Milwaukee-Eight 117 V-twin is new inside, with liquid-cooled cylinder heads, a gallon-size airbox, a 58mm throttle body, oval intake ports, and a revised combustion chamber. It produces 105 horsepower at 4600 rpm and 130 ft-lbs of torque at 3250 rpm, and roll-on power arrives effortlessly.
Sport, Road, and Rain modes each set throttle response, power output, engine braking, cornering traction control, and cornering ABS, and a Custom mode lets the rider set all five. Other aids include electronically linked brakes, deceleration traction control, hill hold control, tire pressure monitoring, and cruise control.
The new fairing is designed to reduce helmet buffeting, with an adjustable Splitstream vent and a single LED headlight. Inside is a 12.3-inch TFT touchscreen running Skyline OS, with three display layouts plus Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. An audio system developed with Rockford Fosgate is built into the fairing.
Rear wheel travel increases nearly 50% to 3 inches, and the Showa Dual Bending Valve fork gets new settings to match; only the emulsion shocks’ spring preload is adjustable. Forged aluminum triple clamps and a lighter fuel tank contribute to the weight loss. Cornering clearance is generous, and the triple-disc linked brakes handle the 838-pound curb weight.
A wider, flatter handlebar with mini-ape height and a new seat create a relaxed, all-day riding position, with a 28.3-inch seat height. The redesigned side cases offer more capacity.
The Road Glide is aimed at riders who want a traditional touring bagger with modern electronics and real power. The 2024 Harley-Davidson Road Glide starts at $25,999, with black trim and premium colors adding to the price.
