A cult bike in Europe from 1991 until it was replaced by the Versys 650 in 2007, the Kawasaki KLE500 is back for 2026, and not just in Europe. The 2026 Kawasaki KLE500 ABS adventure bike will also be making its US debut in an all-new form. While we don’t have a spec sheet for the new KLE500 yet, we can give you a rundown of the features.
- The 2026 Kawasaki KLE500 uses the 451cc parallel-twin engine from the Ninja 500, Z500, and Eliminator 500, though with a unique tune. Kawasaki promises plenty of bottom-end power for adventure riding, along with a lightweight flywheel for a snappy throttle response. The six-speed transmission is matched to a clutch with assist and slipper functions. No word of a quickshifter, unfortunately.
- A steel trellis frame uses the motor as a stressed member. The engine is canted forward to lower the center of gravity, with the KLE500 offering 6.8 inches of ground clearance below the aluminum skidplate. The swingarm is square-tube aluminum, and the subframe is beefy enough to handle a passenger, panniers, and a top case. The entire frame weighs just under 42 pounds.
- Although Kawasaki hasn’t named the suspension’s source, we do have details about the performance. There’s an inverted 43mm cartridge fork, and the shock gets help from progressive linkage. The fork has 8.3 inches of travel, and the rear wheel moves over a 7.9-inch arc. Adjustability is limited to spring preload on the shock.
- The 21-/17-inch wheelset is adventure-ready. The wheels have aluminum rims and steel spokes. We’re not sure if they are tube or tubeless rims on the 2026 Kawasaki KLE500.
- Kawasaki has employed IRC Trail Winner GP-410 tires for the new KLE500. Previously used on adventure bikes in Japan, this is the rubber’s first visit to America. They have an 80/20 street/dirt ratio.
- Braking is augmented by a Nissin ABS controller. The front disc is a 300mm unit and is grasped by a dual-piston caliper. Out back, you’ll find a 230mm disc with a dual-piston caliper. ABS can be disabled for off-road riding.
- The 2026 Kawasaki KLE500 ABS has a seat height of 33.8 inches. A wide, tapered aluminum handlebar is used for off-road control and rubber mounting for long-distance comfort. Kawasaki claims a narrow midsection and a slim midsection for the 4.2-gallon fuel tank. The footpegs have rubber inserts for street use that can be removed without tools when more boot traction is required for off-road riding. The windshield is three-position adjustable.
- The dash links to your smartphone via Kawasaki’s awkwardly named Rideology The App Motorcycle. In addition to the usual data logging and communications features, there are subscription features available. We don’t have a price yet, but the subscription includes advanced navigation features and voice command capabilities.
- There will be an SE version of the KLE500. It will include reinforced handguards, a larger skidplate, a taller windshield, LED lighting, and a TFT dash. The SE also offers two color options unique to the model—Pearl Blizzard White and Metallic Bluish Green. The SE upgrade adds $900 to the $6599 price of the standard KLE500.
- Both versions of the 2026 Kawasaki KLE500 arrive in the United States after the new year. The standard model comes in one colorway: Metallic Carbon Gray/Ebony.
