The long-running Suzuki DR-Z400S is the only mid-size dual sport bike available from Japan. A well-tested platform, the motor is dependable and has a friendly power delivery.
Tilting the scales over 300 pounds ready-to-ride, it is nowhere near as light as a dirt bike, but far more capable of handling technical single-track than adventure bikes, especially when fitted with more dirt-worthy tires. There are over 11 inches of plush suspension travel at both ends, yet the seat height is manageable at under 37 inches.
