The MotoAmerica AMA/FIM North American Road Race Series will feature something extra for 2016. What might that be?

Well, you may be familiar with BMW awarding cars to MotoGP riders at the end of the season. Honda will be carrying on that tradition during this year’s MotoAmerica Honda Superbike Showdown.

The Honda Superbike Showdown is a three-race series within the MotoAmerica Superbike Championship. When this min-series wraps up, one lucky MotoAmerica Superbike rider will receive a 2016 Honda Civic.

Held at three currently scheduled MotoAmerica races, the Honda Superbike Showdown will be take places at three rounds: Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin (June 3-5); Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama (June 11-12); and Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California (July 8-10).

Honda is the title sponsor and Official Partner of MotoAmerica, so it’s quite fitting that they’d be ponying up one of the most popular models as a prize for the Honda Superbikes Showdown. In addition, they’ll have plenty of activities surrounding each event, which will include some local dealerships. We’ll keep you informed as those developments come in on that front.

The 2016 Honda Civic Sedan is an all new car and happened to win the North American Car of the Year award.

“Having Honda back with us in 2016 shows not only their commitment to MotoAmerica, but also their commitment to growing road racing in America,” said MotoAmerica president and three-time World Champion Wayne Rainey. “I’m looking forward to the Honda Superbike Showdown and seeing which of our riders gets to drive away in that new car.”

“When MotoAmerica took over the AMA championship last year, we knew we wanted to be involved, and we’re excited to grow the partnership for year two,” said Mike Snyder, Senior Manager of Powersports Marketing at American Honda. “The Honda Superbike Showdown is a great way to do that, and it goes hand-in-hand with our improved Red Riders Rewards program, which offers $10,000 for Superbike wins and pays awards in all classes down to 10th place on both days. I look forward to seeing who will take the keys to a new Honda Civic at Laguna Seca in July.”
