Ducati Factory rider Andrea Iannone, who switched to AGV helmets after years with KYT, had unveiled earlier this week his winter testing AGV Pista GP helmet at Sepang International Circuit. As you might remember, Iannone had a short and tumultuous friendship that developed with a seagull during the 2015 Phillip Island GP.

Emblazoned across the side of his AGV Pista GP helmet, aside from the Ducati logos and red color scheme, is his now infamous pal, the Australian seagull. Paying homage to his fallen friend, Iannone’s helmet captures the shocked expression of his winged compatriot.

Of course, Iannone’s helmet also proudly sports his well earned nickname, “The Maniac,” and I’m sure no one is willing to dispute that after the kind of passing he pulled off at the Phillip Island GP.

The AGV Pista GP Andrea will be using during Sepang MotoGP testing is the result of AGV’s Extreme Standards Design system which allows for a much more rigorous battery of tests to improve impact protection, design, field of vision, aerodynamics, weight, venting and ergonomics. This couldn’t have come without the priceless feedback from AGV MotoGP riders, who have tirelessly worked to make AGV the brand leader it is; raising safety standards year after year, above the requirements of homologation standards.

Here at UMC, we find Iannone’s helmet design to be a fine memorial to one of the 2015 MotoGP seasons biggest stars and most short lived stars. We hope you’re picking out of dumpsters in the sky, little buddy.
