S1000RR BMW ABS Pro Option
BMW Motorrad has expanded its ABS Pro, which provides anti-lock braking while cornering. The system is now available as a retrofit option for 2012-2014 BMW S1000RR superbikes.
BMW ABS Pro was first available as a retrofit option for the BMW HP4 in November 2014, and enabled ABS at lean angle for the first time on a supersport. In June of this year, BMW ABS Pro was offered as optional equipment on the S1000XR sport adventure.
As part of its “Safety 360°” strategy, BMW Motorrad began offering the system on other motorcycles, including the R1200GS, R1200GS Adventure and the K1600GT/GTL (standard equipment).
From October 2015, ABS Pro is now also available as a retrofit option for the S 1000 RR, model years 2012 to 2014. Respective solutions for the Double R model years 2015 and 2016 are in the pipeline. The retrofit option will also include a “Race” riding mode for improved on-track functionality.
Speaking of it’s lean-angle ABS, BMW says “the ABS Pro function was deliberately conceived for use on public roads, where unexpected dangers can always potentially lie in waiting. The system provides more safety when braking while cornering. Here the system prevents the wheels from blocking even when the brakes are applied quickly in a banking position; this reduces abrupt changes in steering force on shock-braking maneuvers and stops the motorcycle from rearing up unintentionally.”
