2015 Polaris Slingshot Recall
Polaris Industries has recalled its three-wheeled 2015 Slingshot, which was introduced last year.
The recall directs “immediate stop sale and stop ride” for all Slingshot vehicles due to defective ball bearings in the steering rack and due to roll bars at the driver and passenger seats that “may not support the Polaris performance specifications.”
According to the recall notice sent out to Slingshot dealers, the steering rack ball bearings may fail resulting in loss of steering control, and dealers are asked to immediately notify their Slingshot owners that they “should refrain from operating their vehicle until the necessary repairs are made.”
Regarding the roll-hoops, Polaris indicated it was recently notified by the supplier of the roll hoops that some may not meet the specified performance standards, so Polaris is voluntarily replacing those on all affected vehicles.
Formal safety bulletins on each issue will be delivered to Slingshot dealers by the close of business Wednesday, January 21. The necessary replacement parts will be available for dealers to order starting on January 22 with the majority of parts available for dealer order by the end of January.
All repairs and parts will be provided at no cost to customers.
