A new AMA GEICO EnduroCross points leader emerged following round six this past weekend at Energy Solutions Arena in Salt Lake City – Factory Beta’s Cody Webb.

This was his second victory of the season after winning the opening round in Las Vegas, but the two-stroke Beta 300 pilot was able to garner enough points to rob the lead from Red Bull KTM’s Taddy Blazusiak. With three rounds remaining, Webb trails the Polish Blazusiak by three points.

Webb showed much strength in Salt Lake City. He won his heat race, and took the fastest Hot Lap, which gave him the top pick for the gates. But the final race wouldn’t be that easy.

Factory Husqvarna’s Mike Brown took the the Nexen Tire $500 Holeshot award, followed by Webb, Blazusiak and Factory FMF KTM Offroad’s Taylor Robert with him.

Last week’s winner, and co-points leader with Blazusiak heading into Salt Lake City, Rockstar/JCRHonda/Lucas Oil’s Colton Haaker crashed and started the first full lap in last.

Webb would stalk Brown, and eventually take the lead on lap five after Brown had a slight bobble in the Wood Pile. Blazusiak passed Robert and took Brown for second. Up front, just after he managed a 10-second lead, Webb crashed in the elevated rock turn. He recovered quickly, and was able to hold the lead.

Joining Webb on the Salt Lake City EnduroCross podium was Blazusiak and Robert, respectively.

With his win, Webb now has 143 points, three ahead of Blazusiak and 10 ahead of Haaker, who finished fifth. The series heads this weekend to Washington.

“My race was awesome,” Webb said. “I felt great, and I got into the lead and pulled a big gap. The white flag was thrown and then not thrown, I was the winner and then not done yet. So it did not make sense but I got the win and the points lead so I am happy.”

Blazusiak will continue chasing the title: “I made mistakes but then towards the end of the race I got that rhythm going again and started working on the guys,” Blazusiak said. “In the end, I am happy with second. It’s a good second looking towards the championship.”

As for Robert, he said “The track was really nasty but I got a decent start and passed Taddy for third but then got stuck trying to get around Brownie and Taddy got me back and eventually, I got Brown to get on the podium,” Robert said. “I kind of had a slow start to the season due to the injury that I had setting me back but now I am feeling 100% so I am back up there battling for the top spots.”
