Ride for Kids had yet another successful weekend that exceeded expectations.
More than 180 motorcyclist participated in the sixth Middle Tennessee Ride for Kids on May 18, the event raising $105,333 for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation by ride time.
The event’s Stars were the four local brain tumor survivors who led the ride from Jim Warren Park in Franklin: Makenzie, Bishop, Karissa and Jessica.
Star Makenzie’s mom, Kathleen, told the crowd of motorcyclists, “The kids are the Stars of the day but all of you that support us are our heroes.”
As of May 18, the individual, motorcycle club/chapter and motorcycle business with the most raised were Star Makenzie Matthews ($10,095), Tennessee Honda Riders Club ($10,186) and Sloan’s Motorcycles ($17,067). The top non-motorcycle group was Car Wash for the Cure ($10,095).
Dan Featheringill won the drawing for a new Honda motorcycle, and a Cardo Scala Rider TeamSet went to Steve Freeman. Stacy Hershey won a Tour Master gift card.
Carley Gordon of WSMV TV Channel 4 in Nashville emceed the event. Dr. Adam Esbenshade of Vanderbilt University Medical Center also attended. GEICO made an appearance, and Ride for Kids volunteers from Knoxville, Michigan and Birmingham rode their motorcycles in support of the event.
The event is still collecting donations online at www.rideforkids.org. Fundraisers will receive incentive credit through June 18.
