Dakar 2014 Video Review of Stage Four
The fourth day of the 2014 Dakar Rally took the motorcycle field nearly 350 miles with a 219-mile special, and a 130-mile liaison.
The riders battled sandy conditions from San Juan to Chilecito in Argentina in the second part of the “marathon” stage, which means the riders had no help from mechanics.
Taking his first-ever stage win was Marc Coma’s former waterboy, Juan Pedrero. The Samsung Sherco rider finished the stage just ahead of Red Bull KTM’s Francisco “Chaleco” Lopez and teammate Marc Coma, a three-time Dakar winner.
As for five-time Dakar winner Cyril Despres, the reigning champion stopped over seven miles from the finish, and ended up dropping from second to sixth overall in the rankings; the Red Bull Yamaha rider now trails overall leader Joan Barreda (HRC Honda) by 41 minutes after four of 13 stages.
