2013 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days

The American Motorcyclist Association and Husqvarna Motorcycles are proud to welcome AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Gunnar Lindstrom to the 2013 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, featuring the riders and champions of Husqvarna, at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, July 19-21. Lindstrom will be on hand to meet fans and sign autographs.

Motocross riders owe a lot to Gunnar Lindstrom, a man who helped introduce the sport of motocross racing to the United States by way of the Husqvarna brand.

The Swedish-born racer helped develop bikes as a test rider and engineer for the Husqvarna factory. He was among the first European stars to venture to the United States to compete in the then-new sport of motocross when he contested the Trans-AMA and Inter-AMA series.

At the upcoming AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, Lindstrom will meet fans and sign autographs along with fellow Hall of Famer and 2013 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days Grand Marshal Dick Burleson at the annual celebration of vintage motorcycling.

Grant Parsons (AMA Director of Communciations and Marketing) says: “When European scrambles racing was taking hold in America as motocross, European riders were the absolute kings.

“Seeing international riders like Gunnar in magazines and in person really elevated the sport here, and we’re very pleased that Gunnar will be part of AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days.”

Lindstrom said that it’s a treat to participate.

Gunnar Lindstrom says: “I am looking forward to reconnecting with friends and Husky fans during AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days. And like so many of them, I’m anxious to learn what exciting things are ahead for Husqvarna under new ownership.” AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, featuring the riders and champions of Husqvarna, is the country’s premier celebration of vintage motorcycles and motorcycling heritage.

Proceeds support the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, The three-day weekend event includes the AMA Classic Field Meet Challenge; amateur national championship roadracing, motocross, hare scrambles, trials and dirt-track in vintage classes; a motorcycle skills test; a Wall of Death stunt show; and demo rides of current street and off-road motorcycles.

The event also features North America’s largest motorcycle swap meet, bike shows, seminars on a number of topics by noted motorcycling experts and autograph sessions with AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famers.

At the Husqvarna tent on the infield there will be special parking for Husqvarna motorcycles, and every owner who parks a bike there – any year, any model in any condition – will receive a special gift. On the racetrack, there will be special gifts for the highest-placed Husqvarna in every national championship class.

Burleson, this year’s grand marshal, won eight consecutive AMA Grand National Enduro Championships from 1974 through 1981 during his remarkable career with Husqvarna, earning him the nickname “King Richard.”

To meet Burleson and learn more about his Hall of Fame career — including his final title that came down to the last section of the last race vs. fellow Husqvarna rider Terry Cunningham – make plans to attend AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, featuring the riders and champions of Husqvarna.
