The 2012 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship got underway Saturday with the FMF Hangtown Motocross Classic, the first of 12 rounds.

And before a massive crowd at Prairie City OHV Park, newly-signed Yoshmura Suzuki rider James Stewart took the overall win from a grid lacking two injured riders – the reigning MX Champ Ryan Villopoto (Monster Energy Kawasaki) and Chad Reed (Two-Two Motorsports Honda).

This is Stewarts first full-time return to the AMA MX series, and he would take the overall win with a sweep of the round, and Dungey second overall after a 3-2 finish. Taking the third overall podium position was MotoConcept Suzuki’s Mike Alessi, who had a 7-3 finish in the motos.

In the 250 Class, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Blake Baggett provided a pair of impressive rides to also sweep the day’s motos and claim his second consecutive Hangtown victory.

Rockstar Energy Racing Suzuki’s Jessica Patterson grabbed the win in the opening round of the Women’s Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, relying on consistent 2-2 moto results to claim the overall.
