JAMA: March Motorcycle Sales Up 21.9%

Japanese Domestic Motorcycle Sales

The Japanese Automobile Manufacturers Association recently reported released the overall sales and production figures for the month of March, 2012.

Jama reports that domestic sales (factory shipment) in March from Japanese motorcycle manufacturers (Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki, others) was up 21.9 percent for March 2012 compared to March 2011. Jama says combined, 46,132 units were sold.

  • 50cc or under 29,780 units, up 21.0%
  • 51 – 125cc 10,563 units, up 29.9%
  • 126 – 250cc 3,209 units, down 0.6%
  • Over 250cc 2,580 units, up 36.6%

As domestic sales increased, so have production numbers. Jama reports that 63,033 motorcycles were produced in March 2012, compared to 37,841 in the same month of 2011. This was an increase of 25.192 motorcycles, or 66.6 percent.

  • 50cc or under 9,890 units, up 3,757 units or 61.3%
  • 51 – 125cc 6,128 units, up 3,694 units or 151.8%
  • 126 – 250cc 6,321 units, up 1,441 units or 29.5%
  • Over 250cc 40,694 units, up 16,300 units or 66.8%
