Stewart at Anaheim II Supercross | GoPro Video

2012 AMA Supercross On-Board Video

Thanks to the teaming of GoPro and James Stewart, Supercross fans can see what’s it like to pilot the Joe Gibbs Racing Yamaha YZ450F around tracks throughout the states.

But what’s truly remarkable about some of this GoPro footage is it comes directly from the main events, such as the YouTube clip attached above of Stewart at Anaheim II Supercross Saturday.

During the race, Stewart took second behind Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto. But it wasn’t an easy second-place for Stewart; the Floridian, who won Oakland Supercross, battled fiercely with rival Two-Two Motorsports Honda’s Chad Reed, who finished third.

Stewart’s night at Anaheim II didn’t start off that well, though. The Yamaha rider crashed hard in a rhythm section of the first heat, and although he was in discomfort, Stewart made it through Last Chance Qualifying.

James Stewart (Joe Gibbs Racing Yamaha YZ450F) says: "To get second tonight was actually pretty good considering how the heat race went and how beat up I feel right now. It [the crash] knocked the wind out of me, and my ribs and my wrist, so I’ll be sore tomorrow, and probably Monday, but we’ll be back. It’s nothing we can’t handle, but I was just trying to get through the race from there.

"I didn’t get the greatest of starts and made some passes. I made my way up to third and ended up getting by Chad six or seven laps into the race. I was trying to salvage [something]. I felt like I could have gone a bit faster but I will take that. It was tough out there and definitely one of the toughest of the year!"

Stewart, whose win in Oakland was his 43rd in AMA Supercross, has stood on the podium every season for the past eight years. He is currently fourth in the points race after five of 17 rounds, trailing the overall leader Villopoto by 13 points.

Stewart’s next outing on the YZ450F will be next weekend as the AMA Supercross Championship moves to San Diego.
