Sturgis: Buffalo Chip Campground Day
2011 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally
South Dakota Governor, Dennis Daugaard proclaimed Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011, as Buffalo Chip Campground Day in South Dakota. The campground is celebrating its 30th annual event this year.
In the proclamation, the governor cites the campground’s owner, Rod Woodruff’s 30 years of dedication to growing the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and South Dakota Tourism, its devotion to veterans and active duty personnel and its support for Black Hills charities.
Thursday is the Buffalo Chip’s Freedom Celebration, which this year includes performances by Grammy Award Winners John Fogerty, and Stevie Nicks and oscar-winning actor Jeff Bridges in support of the Bob Woodruff Foundation, which aids returning wounded soldiers and their families.

WHEREAS, The Legendary Buffalo Chip Campground has been an integral component in the growth and promotion of the Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and South Dakota Tourism since 1981; and
WHEREAS, The Buffalo Chip and its owner, Rod Woodruff have been passionate supporters of the Uninted States Military Veterans and active duty personnel, including the Campground’s annual Freedom Celebration consisting of The Buffalo Chip’s Freedom Field with more than a thousand flags, the huge flag at the Buffalo Chip entrance, the Patriot Flag as well as support for numerous veterans and patriotic organizations including The VFW, The American Legion, The Purple Heart Club, The Patriot Guard Riders and the American Veterans Traveling Tribute; and
WHEREAS, The Buffalo Chip has become the world’s premiere music venue serving motorcyclists by providing first class entertainment to tourists from around the world who come here for the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally;,and
WHEREAS, Rod Woodruff and the Buffalo Chip have for thirty years been dedicated to growing the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally by providing unequaled hospitality in the uniqueness of the Buffalo Chip experience; and
WHEREAS, while others have come and gone, Rod Woodruff and The Buffalo Chip stand as one of the oldest privately owned entertainment venues in the world; and
WHEREAS, Rod Woodruff and The Buffalo Chip have during the last thirty years gone out of their way to bring aid to dozens of charities in the Black Hills and around the state.
NOW, THEREFORE I, DENNIS DAUGARD, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA, do hereby declare Thursday, August 11, 2011 as Buffalo Chip Campground in South Dakota.
