Spanish Grand Prix Video

When it comes to discussing a crash-filled race, the 2011 Spanish Grand Prix will definitely be part of the conversation.

Jerez, round 2 of the 2011 MotoGP Championship, began with beautiful weather during the Friday practice sessions, but by the time the 17-rider field got on the Spanish track for Sunday’s race, the rain began falling.

The slick conditions caused many accidents, including the most talked about one between Ducati Team’s Valentino Rossi and Repsol Honda’s Casey Stoner. But after the 27-lap race was complete, Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo took the win.

The reigning MotoGP Champion took the checkered flag after a patient and smart attack to the Jerez circuit; it was also Lorenzo’s first-ever win under wet conditions. Lorenzo won over second-place finisher Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) by 19.3 seconds.

Taking third 29 second after Lorenzo crossed the line was Rossi’s teammate, Nicky Hayden.

With his win, Lorenzo has moved into first place with 45 points, nine ahead of Pedrosa. Stoner is in third with 25 points.

Here’s some highlight footage of the 2011 Jerez MotoGP, and all the accidents throughout the weekend.
