Larry Pegram: Superbike Family on HD TV

For 2011 American Superbike, there will be some changes in Larry Pegram’s paddock. The Columbus, Ohio, native will not be competing on a Ducati, but rather a BMW S1000RR.

And the motorcycle racer who turned pro in 1988 looks to have landed more than just a new ride. Pegram and his team have picked up a TV deal on Discovery with the reality show "Superbike Family."

The six episode Discovery HD Theater TV show will follow the family owned and operated Pegram Race Team as they journey to compete against full factory Superbike race efforts in the AMA Pro Road Racing Series.

Larry Pegram says: "The show is about my dream of becoming a Superbike Champion. Actually, it’s our dream. My parents have been helping me race motorcycles since I was a kid and they’re still here at every race working on the crew. My mechanics are the best and are so committed to this team.

"They do as much if not more than teams who have twice the manpower. We even have sponsors that after writing the check, help out on the weekends working in the pits. It’s definitely a family effort and we’re real proud of what we have accomplished going up against the factory teams. It’s not easy but all of us are chasing our dream."

Pegram and his privateer race team will campaign the 2011 AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike Championship on the potent BMW S 1000 RR, with Foremost Insurance maintaining its title sponsorship of the team.

The paddock regular who finished last year a-career-best fourth in the point standings, aboard the No. 72 Ducati 1098R in AMA Pro National Guard American Superbike, looks to make more progress on the new BMW.

Pegram has completed some preliminary tests that have proven to be better than expected.

Larry Pegram says: "We have tested three times aboard a slightly modified, but mostly stock, BMW S 1000 RR and I am really pleased with the bike’s performance.

"I comfortably did laps that were already very competitive. Some minor modifications will make the RR race ready and a true contender to win AMA Pro SuperBike races."

"Superbike Family" will air on dates and times below, but check your local listing and be sure to tell road race friends.
