2011 World Superbike
Ducati riders continue to dominate in World Superbike testing at Phillip Island, Australia, Tuesday morning, with Carlos Checa (Ducati Althea Racing), Sylvain Guintoli and Jakub Smrz (Effenbert – Liberty Racing) all setting rapid times.
The Spaniard Checa was on superb form and ended up more than six-tenths of a second quicker than his French World Superbike rival with an astonishing time of 1:30.578 seconds, well under Regis Laconi’s circuit best lap from 2009.
Jonathan Rea (Castrol Honda) was the only World Superbike rider to get in between the twins in third place. Another Spanish rider, Joan Lascorz is showing impressive form here in testing , setting fifth quickest time on the factory Kawasaki machine, followed by Michel Fabrizio (Suzuki Alstare) and Marco Melandri (Yamaha).
Max Biaggi (Aprilia Alitalia) only went out on the WSBL track at around 10 a.m. and settled for eleventh quickest time during the morning session of Day 2 at Phillip Island.
All four BMWs were in single file in the time sheets, but down in 14th to 17th places in this World Superbike test session. Leon Haslam is the best at the moment, but had two crashes this morning, luckily without any consequences.
