Silverstone: Lascorz & Tamburini Crash

Supersport Video

The World Supersport race at Silverstone this weekend was red flagged due to this horrific motorcycle accident coming out of turn one on the first lap.

The crash occurred after Kawasaki rider Joan Lascorz’s front wheel was bumped by Eugene Laverty. The Spaniard went down and began sliding off the track. While sliding, he was hit by a wildcard Yamaha entry rider, Roberto Tamburini.

Lascorz’s bike caught fire, and the race was immediately red flagged. Reports say Lascorz suffered some broken ribs, blood inside his lungs, and a shoulder and hand injury. Reports says that the Italian Tamburini broke his collarbone.

When the race restarted, it came down to Parkalgar Honda rider Laverty and Hannspree Ten Kate Honda rider Kenan Sofuoglu. Laverty held off Sofuoglu for the win of the delayed 16-lap race.

In the overall points standings, Sofuoglu now has 203, Laverty has 186. The next round is to be held at the Nürburgring, Germany, Sept. 3 – 5.
