There will be a new contender aboard an 1125RR for the remainder of the 2010 AMA Pro American Superbike Series; starting at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California on May 14-16 for Round 3, Geoff May will be contending for Erik Buell Racing.
May will be joined by the experience of Team Manager Dennis Zickrick and Crew Chief Michael Tjon.
Erik Buell says; "We are very fortunate to be able to field a team of this caliber. Our team is very lean in size and budget and we are up against the best, but I know these guys will do everything possible to put on a great show for the fans."
Last year, May raced for Jordan Suzuki, finishing eighth in the AMA Pro American SuperBike point standings with three podium finishes – Auto Club and Road Atlanta (2).
For the first three races this season, May competed on the GMR Racing Suzuki GSX-R600 in the Daytona SportBike series before taking the spot on the Erik Buell Racing team; his best finish was seventh in the Daytona 200.
Dennis Zickrick says "Geoff did a couple short tests with us, including one very cold and wet one at Road America this weekend, and all of us were very satisfied with the results. The bikes worked well, and Geoff is a very talented rider with great development feedback skills. We all look forward to joining the series."
The 1125RR American SBK inspired motorcycle-racing fans with top-10 finishes in its first outings at Mid-Ohio and New Jersey late in the AMA Pro Road Racing 2009 season.
Based on the 1125R, but set up specifically to be competitive in the AMA Superbike class, the 1125RR ASB is a fine tribute to the accomplishments of the now defunct Buell Motorcycle Company and its American sport motorcycles.
Jake Zemke currently leads the 2010 AMA Superbike standings with 145 points followed by Tommy Hayden with 141 and Blake Young with 130. All are riding Suzuki GSX-R1000 superbikes.
