Moto2 History

Toni Elias secured pole position for the first ever FIM Moto2 World Championship race at the Commercialbank Grand Prix of Qatar.

Elias, competing for the Gresini Racing Moto2 team, clocked the only sub-2:02 lap at the end of a tight qualifying session on Saturday evening, with only a second separating the top 13 on the grid.

The former MotoGP rider posted 2:01:904 to better the mark of Mapfre Aspar’s Julian Simon (2:02:032).

Simon, the 125cc world champion, will start from second with Stefan Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing) third and Alex de Angelis (RSM Team Scot) fourth.
