After having been announced winner of the sixth stage of the 2011 Dakar Rally, Ruben Faria on his Red Bull KTM motorcycle was finally reclassified 3rd following an race organizer timing error.
This meant that the Dakar motorcycle racing victory was passed to Helder Rodrigues with Cyril Despres second.
During Stage 5 of the 2011 Dakar Rally, victory on the special went to Paulo Gonçalves ahed of local hero ‘Chaleco’ Lopez at 2’18, with Verhoeven third (at 2’19).
Cyril Despres riding the Red Bull KTM finished fifth at 4’10 with fellow KTM enduro motorcycle rider Ruben Faria 7th at 12’05.
Starting the Dakar Rally first this morning, after teammate Ruben Faria received a one-minute time penalty yesterday evening, Cyril Despres and his Red Bull KTM 450cc machine opened the piste the entire length of today’s special.
Despres easily took the enduro motorcycle racing victory 1’49 ahead of Marc Coma, with David Casteu third (at 3’46).

Cyril Despres, closely shadowed throughout the day by his eternal nemesis and fellow KTM factory rider Marc Coma, emerged the winner of Stage Two of the 33rd edition of the Dakar Rally on Monday as riders took on the challenge from Cordoba to San Miguel as they head north through Argentina on this epic 16-day ride.

Stage One of the 2011 Dakar Rally in Argentina wrapped up on Sunday with reigning title holder Cyril Despres of Andorra taking first overall on the KTM 450 Rally for the motorcycle field. Depres’ teammate, Ruben Faria, of Portugal, initially took first, but a last-minute penalty for speeding dropped him to second overall.
