Roberts TZ750 Ride
Click video to see Kenny Roberts. Back in 1975, Kenny Roberts rode a fearsomely fast Yamaha TZ750 flat-tracker motorcycle to a stunning victory at the Indy Mile. After just three races, the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) banned the motorcycle from further racing competition-because it was too fast. In 2009, King Kenny Roberts rode this famous Yamaha TZ750 flat-tracker race motorcycle once again, at the Indy Mile.
AMA Pro Racing and Yamaha Motor Corporation will pay tribute and honor Kenny Roberts in recognition of the historic last lap win at the 1975 Indy mile on the Yamaha TZ750 that ultimately proved to be one of the most famous wins in American Dirt Track history.
The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is pleased to welcome MetroRacing.com’s support of the dirt-track races at the inaugural AMA Racing Vintage Grand Championships, which takes place Friday, July 24, in Ashland, Ohio, as part of AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days.
The AMA Racing Vintage Dirt Track Grand Championship, presented by MetroRacing.com, will crown AMA Racing National Vintage Champions on the Ashland County Fairgrounds half-mile.
MotoGP World Championship leader Valentino Rossi made an early foray onto the Laguna Seca tarmac today, taking part in a Superkart exhibition alongside fellow Yamaha legends Kenny Roberts, Eddie Lawson and Wayne Rainey. The foursome made four laps in Superkarts powered by a specially-prepared Yamaha TZ 250 engines, which lap the 3.601km California circuit just a couple of seconds slower than the MotoGP bikes.
The Italian and the three Americans hold an impressive 18 Grand Prix World Championship titles between them, including three each for Yamaha.
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca announced that a new event the ‘Festival of Legends – Wings and Wheels’ will be debuting in fall 2010 at the world renowned race track. A special preview of the event will be on display at this year’s Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix in the Yamaha Market Place on July 3 – 5, 2009.
The Festival of Legends exhibit at the race will have an eclectic range of historical motorcycles, including the new future F-450 racing class, linking motocross, supermoto and road racing models with those classic bikes from Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca’s celebrated past racing pedigree.
