The 2024 Beta Explorer is a small-chassis electric trail bike built for trail riding, camping, hunting, and working around the ranch. A collaboration between Apollo Moto and Beta USA, it is roughly 30% smaller than a normal off-road motorcycle, and California riders can register it as an off-road bike.
The electric motor produces 17 horsepower and draws from a 74-volt, hot-swappable battery. Top speed is 40 mph. A clutchless direct drive replaces the clutch and gearbox, and reverse is standard.
Three modes tailor the power. Casual mode cuts top speed and torque in half compared to Medium mode, stretching the claimed range to 50 to 100 miles; Medium mode is rated for 30 to 60 miles. Rocket mode delivers a 10-second burst of power.
The battery swaps out in minutes, so a spare can extend a day on the trail. Charging from a standard outlet takes two to three hours.
The frame is forged aluminum with a steel upper structure, suspended by an adjustable inverted fork and a linkage-assisted, fully adjustable shock. To save weight, Beta uses brakes and suspension closer to mountain bike spec than traditional motorcycle units, along with narrow Kenda tires on a 19-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel. The result is a 150-pound machine with a 33.8-inch seat height and a 265-pound rider-weight limit.
A storage compartment under the seat has room for a water canteen, a small dome tent, or a picnic lunch.
