The 2024 Aprilia RS 457 is a fully faired lightweight sportbike that brings the brand’s racing pedigree to new and returning riders. It slots below the RS 660, and building it in India helps keep the price at $6799.
A 457cc DOHC parallel-twin makes 48 horsepower at 9400 rpm and 32 ft-lbs of torque at 6700 rpm. Its 270-degree crank gives it a lively character, and 82% of peak torque arrives by 3000 rpm, making it user-friendly on the street and track. The 6-speed gearbox shifts smoothly, and a quickshifter is a $399 accessory.
The chassis is the standout. A twin-spar aluminum frame uses the engine as a stressed member and carries an engine-mounted swingarm for big-bike rigidity. A 386-pound curb weight, 24.1 degrees of rake, and a 53.2-inch wheelbase make it agile in quick transitions.
The 41mm inverted fork and shock are spring-preload adjustable, with firm yet communicative springs and damping. A radially mounted four-piston ByBre caliper grips a single 320mm disc up front, and its bite won’t catch newcomers out. TVS Eurogrip Protorq Extreme radials are standard.
Ride-by-wire brings Sport, Eco, and Rain modes, all with full power. Traction control has three levels plus off, and ABS can be switched to front-only for the track. A five-inch TFT display, LED lighting, and mirror-mounted turn signals are standard.
Clip-on-style handlebars mount above the top triple clamp, keeping weight off the wrists. The 31.5-inch seat height suits shorter inseams, and a notch in the 3.4-gallon fuel tank lets taller riders tuck in. Side-panel vents route engine heat away from the rider.
Aprilia offers the RS 457 in Opalescent Light and Prismatic Dark, with the RS-GP-inspired Racing Stripes livery at extra cost. It is intended as a foundation for building skills, from commuting to canyons to track days.
