AltRider Adventure X Footpegs Review [Plus DualControl Brake]

AltRider Adventure X footpegs are wider and longer than the stock footrests they replace, making standing for extended periods noticeably more comfortable. The ergonomically designed, replaceable cleats keep your boots planted without chewing up the soles. The Adventure X pegs also sharpen the look of the Ultimate Motorcycling Honda CRF300L Rally Project Bike, and are straightforward to install.

The pegs are CNC-machined from robust 7000-series billet aluminum with high zinc content. Strategic cutouts help shed mud and debris, and the platform is sized to provide solid boot support while maintaining obstacle clearance. A bead-blasted anodized finish holds up well, even after repeated encounters with rocks and trail debris.

AltRider built meaningful adjustability into the Adventure X pegs. During installation, you can set the cant from flat to a few degrees of upward camber. They can also be mounted at stock height or positioned half an inch lower. I chose the lower setting and immediately noticed reduced knee bend and a more natural arm angle when standing. The clear install video on the AltRider website walks you through mixing the mounting components to dial in your preferred setup.

Installation requires only a 5mm socket, and a side cutter or needle-nose pliers. Following the video instructions for cleat, cant, and height selection, assemble the peg, reusing the OEM pin and washer to mount it in the bracket. Apply slight pressure to the spring, slide the pin in, reinstall the washer, and secure it with the supplied cotter pin. The whole process takes less than ten minutes per side.

I’ve put roughly 1,000 miles on the Adventure X pegs, about 200 of those off-road. Other than brief stops, I stood the entire time. The added width and length reduced pressure on my arches, even in stiff-soled Tech 7s. The difference was even more noticeable in softer, adventure-style boots.

Running $185 a pair, the AltRider Adventure X footpegs are available in silver or black finishes.

The AltRider DualControl brake system is a uniquely designed safety accessory that I didn’t know I needed until I started riding with it. It is a two-level platform that attaches securely to the brake pedal. It has a platform at toe level when standing and a second, wider platform at toe level when sitting.

When I stand, which I do most of the time, my boot is parallel to the ground and the farthest away from the brake pedal. When sitting, my toe is angled toward the ground. Unless I am actively pressing the brake pedal, my toe is off to the side of it.

With the DualControl installed, I have near instant contact with the brake pedal when standing. When sitting, the wide, lower platform makes moving to and pressing the brake pedal simply faster and almost no chance of missing. It only took a few minutes to get the hang of using the two levels; now, it is just how I brake, and I consider it a safety enhancement.

Installation is a simply assembly of the three pieces of the unit and screwing in the cleats. The dual platform billet aluminum DualControl comes in black and silver, just like the Adventure X foot pegs. The DualControl unit clamps to the brake pedal via a stainless-steel bottom plate.

The Adventure X pegs improve my interface with the Honda CRF300L Rally. The larger platform, thoughtful adjustability, and secure footing translate into greater comfort and control, especially for riders who spend extended periods standing.

Combining the $119 DualControl Brake System pedal extension to the AltRider Adventure X footpegs creates more than a comfort upgrade; it meaningfully improves access to the brakes in both seated and standing positions. Having immediate, predictable contact with the brake pedal reduces hesitation. It eliminates the split-second foot repositioning that can matter when traction is loose, terrain gets technical, or you simply have to stop in a hurry. After a thousand miles, the $304 combination has proven to be a practical upgrade that adds comfort, confidence, and functionality, delivering tangible gains in control and safety.
