The range of exotic and innovative scooters from Italjet expands with the new Roadster. As with all Italjets, there is quite a bit to talk about. Italjet has established itself as a builder of the highest-performance factory-produced scooters in the world. The 2027 Italjet Roadster 400 is another example of the creative thinking coming from this company based in Castel Guelfo di Bologna, Emilia-Romagna.
- Leading the way is steering via a single-sided swingarm. The new Dynamic Linkage Articulated Steering (DLAS) system used by Italjet takes a different approach than the Italian company’s earlier single-sided swingarm designs from the Dragster models.
- There are two parts to the DLAS unit. A rigid lower arm holds the axle and the brake calipers in a fixed position relative to each other. This lower arm is very stiff, so there’s almost no flex when braking hard or leaning into a corner — the wheel stays exactly where it’s pointed, giving super-accurate steering feel. Above that, there’s a unique linkage system where two pieces cross and pivot like scissors. One end connects to the steering head, and the other to the lower arm with the wheel. When you turn the handlebars, the linkage pushes or pulls the lower arm laterally to steer the wheel, reducing the influence of suspension movement.
- A prominently displaced inverted Öhlins piggyback-reservoir shock handles suspension duties. As the shock travels, its motion changes the steering angle less than in a conventional setup. Steering and suspension are more decoupled for “exceptional cornering accuracy without compromising ride comfort,” according to Italjet insiders.
- The rear suspension is a trailing-link design, similar in philosophy to the front DLAS. Instead of a typical low vertical or slightly angled monoshock, as you’d see on most scooters or motorcycles, Italjet routes the progressive linkage to the Öhlins shock over the rear wheel, with the shock cantilevered nearly horizontally to bolt to the frame. The piggyback reservoir is mounted on top because there’s no room between the shock body and the fender.
- The Öhlins shock sits between the honeycomb outlets of two Akrapovič mufflers. While the 2027 Italjet Roadster is a single, it still has a pair of mufflers. A patented flex pipe sends the spent gases from the motor to the mufflers.
- Between the suspension apparatuses, there is a low-slung, high-grade steel trellis frame. Even with all of the high-tech features, it’s still a step-through scooter. The curb weight with the 3.2-gallon tank filled is a lightweight 354 pounds.
- The turbine-like intakes for the DOHC motor are inspired by jet fighters. The liquid-cooled, four-valve motor spins up to 7500 rpm to develop 42 horsepower, with the torque maxing out at 30 lb-ft at 6000 rpm. Traction control is standard. Fuel consumption is 46 mpg—thirsty for a scooter. Lower mileage is the price you pay for higher performance.
- Pirelli Diablo Rosso Scooter tires are mounted on 13-inch wire-spoke wheels with aluminum rims. The front wheel gets 280 discs and radially mounted Nissin calipers, creatively integrated into the suspension design. The rear Nissin caliper works on a 260mm disc.
- MotoGP-inspired lever guards—both handlebar levers operate brakes—have integrated turn signals. Lighting on the 2027 Italjet Roadster is all LED, while the dash is a round TFT display.
- The black seat features gold stitching, with Roadster and the Italian flag color embroidered at the back. The generous seat is designed to handle a passenger.
- Italjet still doesn’t have a United States importer. You’ll have to head to Europe and bring around €7800 if you want the 2027 Italjet Roadster. Also, delivery doesn’t begin until late 2026. While you’re over in Italy picking up your scooter, we wouldn’t mind if you contacted Italjet and started bringing their amazing Italian-built machines over the Atlantic.
