Vespa is turning 80 and marking the occasion with one of the rarest scooters it has ever built. The 2027 Vespa Edizione Ottantesimo is a numbered, limited-edition collector’s model that pairs the brand’s steel-bodied heritage with its most powerful engine to date. Unveiled in Rome during Vespa’s 80 Years of an Icon celebration, it will reach a tiny number of U.S. buyers in December 2026. Here is what stands out:
The 2027 Edizione Ottantesimo is a numbered, limited-edition scooter built to mark Vespa’s 80th birthday. This collector’s model is based on the Vespa GTS 310 and was unveiled in Rome at the Foro Italico. Only 1,946 examples will be sold worldwide, a nod to 1946, the year Vespa was born.
Just 25 of those scooters are headed to the United States. The MSRP is $12,000, with deliveries expected just in time for Christmas. If you’re from Canada, you’ll have to cross the border to get one.
The Edizione Ottantesimo’s signature look comes straight from raw steel. Vespa has built its load-bearing body from steel since day one, and the special livery is meant to mimic that bare metal: rough, solid, and authentic. A textured grey finish covers the bodywork, while a distinctive green appears on the saddle and wheel rims. That green recalls Vespa’s early single-color models.
A green “80” graphic marks each side of the scooter and doubles as a design Easter egg. The three-dimensional number carries the hexagonal Vespa logo and is shaped to suggest a bolt, a nod to the hand-built craftsmanship behind every Vespa. The passenger seat has a removable hard cover in the body color for a sporty, single-seat look inspired by racing Vespas. Lift it off, and the saddle carries two. Heat-sealed seams and tone-on-tone stitching finish the seat.
The wheels borrow a design from 1946. The rims on the 2027 Vespa Edizione Ottantesimo reinterpret the closed, pressed sheet-metal wheels first used on the legendary Vespa 98, though updated with a diamond-cut channel for a modern edge.
Power comes from the strongest engine Vespa has ever produced. The scooter’s 310 hpe (high performance engine) churns out 25 horsepower.
The standard equipment list for the 2027 Vespa Edizione Ottantesimo is generous. ABS, traction control, keyless ignition, full LED lighting, a 5-inch color TFT display, and the Vespa MIA connectivity system are all standard. Courtesy lights are located behind the leg shield and in the under-seat compartment.
Owners can personalize the 2027 Edizione Ottantesimo with factory accessories. The list includes a 36-liter top box in the body color, a matching padded backrest, front and rear luggage racks, side bars, fairings, windscreens, and an electronic anti-theft system.
Every 2027 Vespa Edizione Ottantesimo ships with a matching helmet and collector extras. The DOT-approved helmet wears the same textured grey finish, green detailing, and “80” as the scooter. A numbered commemorative plaque sits in the under-seat compartment, and each buyer also receives a coffee table book from luxury publisher Assouline that traces Vespa’s history through images from the Piaggio archives. The scooter can be ordered via the Vespa website.
