Slimey Crud Motorcycle Gang Café Racer | 2016 Dates
It’s all about the Café Racers like this nifty BSA 650 Lightning. No riding season may ever be complete without participating in the twice-yearly Slimey Crud Motorcycle Gang Café Racer Run that rolls on the first Sundays in May and October. This year, the Sunday dates are May 1st and October 1st, so mark your calendar.Like the classics? Dave Liebl was on hand at the fall 2005 Crud Run with his 1968 Velocette Thruxton 500.
If you don’t get a chance to attend Sturgis, Daytona Bike Week, the Laughlin River Run, or other such events this summer, then maybe the Slimey Crud Run will be the one that fits your calendar. On the other hand, even if you do get to do all of those events this season, you may want to add the Crud Run to your plans.Set in southern Wisconsin on some of the best motorcycling terrain and back roads in the country, the Crud Run starts in Pine Bluff, Wis. – a few miles outside Madison – and ends up in Leland, Wis. How you get to Leland from Pine Bluff is entirely up to you; there is no specified route, no “road captains” to follow around, no event agenda, and no entry fee. Freelance to your heart’s content and get lost cruising the broad Lower Wisconsin Riverway; it’s all good. It’s a great “run whatcha brung” event, where no brand or type of bike is favored. You name it, you may well see it there—adventure bikes, cruisers, choppers, street fighters, standards, classics, rat bikes, sport bikes, trikes, sidehacks, bobbers, customs, dirt bikes, scooters, mopeds—and, of course café racers. For a look back at some of the past Crud Run events we’ve covered, check out:Top 10 bikes of the Slimey Crud Café Racer Run-Fall 20142014 Spring Slimey Crud Run RecapSlimey Crud Café Racer Run Rocks Southern WisconsinFor a great look at the Slimey Cruds themselves and the history of the event, the documentary DVD “American Café” is just the ticket. Hello everyone and welcome once again to Motos and Friends, the weekly podcast brought to you by Ultimate Motorcycling. My name is Arthur Coldwells.
Motos and Friends is brought to you by Yamaha. You can check out the amazing YZF-R7 at your local Yamaha dealer, or of course at YamahaMotorsports.com. The YZF-R7 is an amazing supersport machine that is comfortable too!
In this week’s first segment, Editor Don Williams takes the smallest BMW ADV bike on an urban adventure in Los Angeles. The BMW G 310 GS is a full size motorcycle with a modest engine, so of course we wonder if it is a little too underpowered and might struggle. Don put it through its paces and gives us his take.
In the second segment, Neale Bayly and Kiran Ridley have returned from the Ukraine to Paris where Kiran is based.
Kiran is an award winning photojournalist, and as an accomplished documentarian, he has covered stories as diverse as drug smuggling around the Mexican border, to the devastation of the Australian Bush Fires, to the tragedy of the Mediterranean migration crisis. Neale and Kiran reminisce about their motorcycle adventure in the Ukraine, and their observations and experiences with the incredibly resilient people of Ukraine, who have been put through such brutal hardship.
