Attention 2014/2015 Suzuki V-Strom 1000 owners – Suzuki has recalled 2,404 of its 2014 DL1000 adventure-touring motorcycles due to the possibility of corroded ignition-switch terminals.

Suzuki says the affected V-Strom 1000 motorcycles – built Jan. 17, 2014, to June 5, 2014, and Nov. 5, 2014, to Feb. 6, 2015 – may suffer from corroded ignition terminals if the terminals contact liquid such as salt water.

If this occurs, the V-Strom’s electrical power may be disconnected, or the switch bypassed, not allowing the rider to turn the motorcycle off. Suzuki says If electrical power is lost, the engine would stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

Suzuki says it will notify owners, and dealers will install a cover for the ignition switch connector, and any corroded ignition lead wire and wire harnesses will be replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall is expected to begin January 22, 2016. Owners may contact Suzuki customer service at 1-714-996-7040. Suzuki’s number for this recall is 2A53.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
