2014 Las Vegas Supercross Results
The 2014 Monster Energy Supercross concluded Saturday evening before a sold out crowd at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas.
And before over 35,500 fans, the man who clinched last week his fourth-straight Monster Energy Supercross title capped off his season with a win – his seventh of the season, and his 41st of his career.
Joining Villopoto on the podium was the Red Bull Factory KTM duo of Ryan Dungey and Ken Roczen, respectively.
When the 20-lap main began, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jake Weimer took the Nuclear Cowboyz Holeshot Award – his first of the season. But Villopoto wasted no time, and passed Weimer on the opening lap.
Next to pass Weimer was Dungey on lap 2. Roczen also passed Weimer for third on the third lap. The lead group remained in these positions for the entire race, and Villopoto eventually finished the race nearly 14 seconds ahead of Dungey.
“It is a long season, and it is hard, but I have good people behind me that give it 100 percent,” said Villopoto. “Something started to click for me about halfway through the season, and I am excited to have another championship.”
Dungey finished second in the overall point standings, and Roczen moved into third ahead of Yoshimura Suzuki’s James Stewart, who didn’t race in Vegas.
Rounding out the top five in Vegas were Honda’s Justin Barcia and Trey Canard, respectively.
Rockstar Energy Racing’s Jason Anderson, who had four wins on the season, won the Western Regional 250SX Class Championship, and Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Dean Wilson finished the season with the race win. GEICO Honda’s Justin Bogle won the Eastern Regional 250SX Class Championship as Star Racing Yamaha’s Jeremy Martin captured the first race win of his career. Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Justin Hill led wire-to-wire to win the Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Shootout, Feld Motor Sports says.
Yamaha/Star Racing/Yamalube’s Cooper Webb jumped out to the early lead with the Nuclear Cowboyz Holeshot Award to begin the Western Regional 250SX Class season finale. Anderson started near the middle of the pack, crossing the finish line in ninth place at the end of Lap 1, Feld Motor Sports says.
Wilson held down the number-two position until the end of Lap 7 when he passed Webb for the lead. Webb answered back the following lap to take over the lead. Wilson returned the favor on Lap 9 and rode to his second victory of the season, Feld Motor Sports says.
Webb followed in second place and Wilson’s teammate Justin Hill, who had four top-three finishes this season, rounded out the podium in third place. Anderson finished in sixth place, enough to award him the first championship of his career, Feld Motor Sports says.
“Everyone that lines up on the starting line gives everything they have to this sport, and to come out on top with the championship means a lot to me,” said Anderson. “This win is for all of my supporters – my team and family. It has not been an easy ride to the top, but we got it done.”
En route to the championship, Bogle opened the Eastern Regional 250SX Class Main Event with the Nuclear Cowboyz Holeshot Award, and Martin and GEICO Honda’s Matt Bisceglia followed Bogle in second and third respectively, Feld Motor Sports says.
On Lap 5, Webb moved around Bogle to take over the lead and eventual win, while Bogle crossed the finish line in second place. Bisceglia earned a career-best third place finish, Feld Motor Sports says.
“I am definitely excited about this championship,” said Bogle. “I am going to celebrate this win tonight and get back to work tomorrow.”
In the Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Shootout, Hill led the field through the Nuclear Cowboyz Holeshot with Bisceglia in tow. Wilson moved through the pack on the opening lap, passing Bisceglia for second place before the finish line, Feld Motor Sports says.
Troy Lee Designs/Honda’s Malcolm Stewart assumed the number-three spot on Lap 3 but crashed out of the race the following lap. Hill held on for the win, and Wilson and Anderson finished second and third respectively, Feld Motor Sports says.
