BMW Recalls 2013 F800GS & F700GS Due to Side-Stand Issues
2013 BMW F800GS/F700GS Motorcycle Recall
BMW of North America has recalled 870 of its 2013 F800GS and F700GS adventure motorcycles due to sides-stand switch issues. BMW says the effected bikes were manufactured from June 1, 2012, through Oct. 18, 2012.
BMW says the side-stand switch, which prevents the engine from running with the side stand down while in gear, may malfunction. BMW says the switch may become damaged, and if malfunctioning will allow the engine to run even with the side-stand down.
If this occurs, the motorcyclist may ride the F800GS or F700GS with the side stand down, increasing the risk of a crash.
BMW will notify owners and dealers will secure the side-stand switch, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in August 2013. Owners may call BMW at 1-800-525-7417 or email BMW at CustomerRelations@bmwusa.com.
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to safercar.gov.
