Road America to Host Round 2 of AMA Pro Road Racing
When AMA Pro Racing released its road-racing calendar in November last year, 11 rounds were scheduled, including one in “April/May” that was to be determined.
On that schedule, Road America was slated for round 3, the historic facility in Elkhart Lake, Wis., hosting the Subway SuperBike Doubleheader on the weekend of May 31 – June 2, 2013.
But on Thursday, AMA Pro Racing reported that Road America will now be considered Round 2, the dates remaining May 31 – June 2. This means that only 10 rounds will be on the 2013 AMA Pro Road Racing schedule (listed below; round 8 still to be determined) that consists of AMA SuperBike, Daytona SportBike, SuperSport and the Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson series.
Also, that leaves a two and a half month break from round 1 at Daytona to round 2 at Road America.

Michael Gentry (COO, AMA Pro Racing) says: “Although the TBD event previously scheduled as Round 2 has been removed from the schedule, we are looking forward with great excitement to the Subway SuperBike Doubleheader at Road America.
“The great staff at Road America have been working tirelessly to create the world-class fan experience that their events are known for, and we are eager to arrive in Elkhart Lake, Wis. to contest the next round of the 2013 GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing championship on the weekend of May 31-June 2.”
During the opening round of AMA Pro Road Racing at Daytona, there was some upset in the AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike series. It’s champion for the past three consecutive years, Monster Graves Yamaha’s Josh Hayes, was forced out of both race 1 and race 2 due to mechanical issues aboard hi YZF-R1.
Taking the race-one win was Hayes’ teammate, Josh Herrin; it was Herrin’s first-ever AMA SBK race win. Race two went to Yoshimura Suzuki’s Martin Cardenas.
Yamaha’s Cameron Beaubier won the 72nd running of the Daytona 200, the California native leading a majority of the 57-lap race. Tyler O’Hara captured the AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series victory by a mere .075 seconds over a charging Kyle Wyman. In AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport, it was Stefano Mesa and Tomas Puerta who claimed victories in very close races that required technical skill and tactical maneuvers.
