Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto made history Saturday evening in Angel Stadium, becoming the first rider to take both Anaheim I and Anaheim II in a single AMA Supercross season.

And the reigning SX Champion did it with much style; Villopoto grabbed the holeshot in the 20-lap main event, and except for losing the lead for a bit to Two-Two Motorsports Chad Reed, Villopoto completely dominated the race.

Joining Villopoto on the podium at Anaheim II were JGRMX Yamaha’s James Stewart and Reed, respectively.

Ryan Villopoto (Monster Energy Kawasaki KX450F Supercross) says: "I pulled the holeshot and got passed on the inside going through the whoops, but was able to stay low off the triple and pass him back before the end of the first lap.

"Once out front, I was just trying to keep tabs on second place. I saw that the guys behind me were doing a faster rhythm, so on the next lap I was able to take that line and from there I was able to keep a consistent gap until the finish."

After a few weeks of shared points leaders, Villopoto has reclaimed the points lead and will be the sole rider carrying the red plate heading into San Diego; he has 108 points, three ahead of Reed, who has 105.
