2011 Sturgis Buffalo Chip: Sponsor Exposure

Buffalo Chip

The Sturgis Buffalo Chip, motorcycling’s largest music festival, has expanded its roster of sponsors for the 71st annual Sturgis Rally held this August.

The 2011 year marks the Sturgis Buffalo Chip’s 30th anniversary as corporate partners tap into its high-octane mix of music, motorcycles, camaraderie and freedom.

As the focal point of the world’s largest motorcycle rally, the Sturgis Buffalo Chip ushers in tens of thousands through its "Welcome Home Bikers" gates each and every August.

The massive outdoor venue is complete with a full-service campground, concert amphitheater, food and retail shops as well as an endless collection of events, entertainment and promotions catered to its leather-clad audience.

Sponsors take note – according to an independent media audit conducted by CISION USA, Inc., the Sturgis Buffalo Chip garnered over 1.2 billion impressions across broadcast, radio, print, outdoor and social media channels in 2010, and the 2011 celebration is expected to surpass that mark.

Lon Nordbye (Director of Corporate Partnerships at The Chip) says: "The Sturgis Buffalo Chip not only gives corporations and brands the opportunity to gain exposure on a national and international level, but also the ability to connect with our extended family of customers and become a memorable part of their experience. We deliver return and value to our partners by having a shared goal of improving the experience of our shared customers."

Recent trends in sponsorship of outdoor events and music festivals is expected to increase this year, with corporations and brands turning to venues such as the Sturgis Buffalo Chip to reach their target audiences. In addition to category leaders such as Anheuser-Busch, Inc. Progressive Insurance, Lionsgate Entertainment and Victory Motorcycles, the Sturgis Buffalo Chip welcomes new partners for its 30th anniversary celebration including BIC, Epiphone Guitars, GEICO and Shiner Brewery.

When it comes to marketing and sales programs, corporate partners of the famed Sturgis Rally destination have limitless opportunities, both in-venue and out-of-venue. Activation programs range from such traditional assets as digital advertising, mobile marketing displays, customized promotions, VIP events and tie-ins and national media.

By creating and delivering a world-class atmosphere of rock and rumble, the Sturgis Buffalo Chip elevates the public’s interest in the Sturgis Rally, the desire to visit the state of South Dakota and, for sponsors, the chance to be a part of its extended family.
