2011 Daytona SX
For the fourth straight year, five-time Daytona Supercross By Honda champion and current NASCAR Camping World Truck Series star Ricky Carmichael has designed the course for the most prestigious and challenging Supercross event in America.
New to the Ricky Carmichael Signature Design this year will be the placement of the starting gate, which will be located on pit road and provide fans with a great view of the first turn.
The finish line will remain in the center of the track alongside the tri-oval near the fans.Carmichael is a 15-time AMA champion and winner of 150 AMA Pro Racing races and the prestigious Motocross of Nations.
Ricky Carmichael says: "I’m really pumped how the new design turned out. I think the new location for the start is good and I feel the track is going to produce some great racing."
Daytona Supercross By Honda, scheduled for Saturday night, March 5, will host the best Supercross riders in America with top names expected to compete such as three-time champion Chad Reed, defending champion Ryan Villopoto, James Stewart, Trey Canard, Ryan Dungey, Kevin Windham and Davi Millsaps.
They will be battling on one of the toughest and most challenging layouts of the season in an attempt to put their name alongside greats such as Bob Hannah, Jeff Stanton, Jeremy McGrath and Carmichael as winners of the Daytona Supercross By Honda.
Construction has already begun on the legendary tri-oval on the Daytona Supercross By Honda course. Mark Burnett, a three-time National champion, is once again building the course.
The paddock for Supercross teams will be staged in the blue garages, which are located adjacent to the Sprint FANZONE and provide easier accessibility for the fans.
Here’s a look at some of the numbers behind the construction of this year’s Daytona Supercross By Honda course:
- 4 Number of tractors working to spread the dirt (1 loader, 1 crawler, 2 skid steer)
- 12 Number of dump trucks used to transport loads of dirt
- 26 Number of jumps on the track
- 210 Number of dump truck loads of dirt used to build the course on the tri-oval grass
- 128 Number of man-hours needed to complete the construction of the course
- 420 Number of 2×9 Styrofoam blocks which will be used for safety along the course
- 3,120 Mileage (in feet) of the Supercross course from start to finish
- 5,800 Tons of dirt needed to build the Supercross track
