Sturgis Girl Combats Distracted Driving

Miss South Dakota Video

The Miss America Pageant has brought back the Miss America "Show Us Your Shoes" Parade, and it will be presented this year in Las Vegas at the pageant.

Miss South Dakota, Lauren Vaillancourt, in an homage to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, will wear biker gear for the event.

The Legendary Buffalo Chip (Sturgis motorcycle destination) was asked to provide some of their Hot Leathers Sturgis Buffalo Chip designs. The parade will take place in Las Vegas on Jan. 15, 2011.

In addition to wearing the biker gear, Lauren is working to stop distracted driving, which any motorcycle rider and of course the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) would appreciate.

The "Show Us Your Shoes" aspect of the parade began in the 1970s in Atlantic City when contestants who were riding in convertibles were asked by the crowds to "show us your shoes."

The parade was abandoned in 2005 when the pageant moved from Atlantic City to Las Vegas and Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.

Pageant organizers said the parade has been revived thanks to a partnership with DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse.
