Israel Motorcycle Tour
The Israel Harley-Davidson Club participated in a promotional motorcycle ride around the contours of the Dead Sea last week in advance of next year’s Love-the-Dead-Sea Bike Weekend.
The motorcycle ride was organized to increase awareness of the Dead Sea, one of Israel’s most popular tourism sites which welcomes more than 1.5 million travelers per year.
Haim Gutin (Commissioner for Tourism, North and South America) says: “The motorcycle riders’ tour was the first event of its kind to take place around the Dead Sea.”
“(The ride) provided some momentum to the Dead Sea in the final year for voting in the New7Wonders of Nature competition.”
Udi Adam says: “We have come here to wake up everyone who has not yet voted for the Dead Sea. The co-initiator Adam explained this after he, together with over a hundred fellow members of the Israeli Harley Davidson Club, descended on the Dead Sea on Nov. 11 2010.
By driving a motorcycle along the coastline and standing in the shape of a big no.7, each rider’s mission was to promote the Dead Sea, one of the 28 Finalists (and a unique one as it is shared by three countries: Israel, Jordan and Palestine), as well as being located at the lowest point on Earth, and to direct the public´s attention to the fact that the declaration of the New7Wonders of Nature will be made on the very same day in 2011.
The Dead Sea is a salt lake between Palestine and Israel to the west and Jordan to the east. At 420 meters below sea level, its shores are the lowest point on Earth that are on dry land.
With 30 percent salinity, it is 8.6 times saltier than the ocean.
