Moto2: Elias Banned from Friday Practice

MotoGP News

Due to testing their MD600 Moto2 motorcycle at Misano last Sunday, the Gresini Moriwaki Team was banned from practicing on Friday for Brno, Round 10 of the MotoGP Championship.

The test, which Team Gresini didn’t hide, was an infringement of the FIM Road Racing World Championship 2010 Regulations. The rules of this infringement state that teams cannot practice “at any circuit included in the grand prix calendar of the current year during breaks (two conecutive weekends are considered breaks).”

Due to the infraction, Elias was penalized by not being able to practice, and his team will be fined 3,000 Euro.

Fausto Gresini says: “It´s tough to see Toni Elias looking so disappointed in the pit box with his number 24 Moriwaki MD600. It was a mistake we obviously didn´t want and I hope Toni and his team are able to make up for lost time tomorrow with the enthusiasm and determination that they are known for. That´s definitely the best way to put this unfortunate incident behind us.”

With Elias not on track, only the Russian rookie Vladimir Ivanov was on track for Friday, and was 27th fastest, posting a 2:06.706.

Vladimir Ivanov says: “Flying the flag for Team Gresini on my own was a big job for me and I tried my best but I´m not satisfied. After the result at Sachsenring I was expecting a much higher level of performance today. I like the track but at the moment I am too far off the pace of the top fifteen. We´ll try and make up for it tomorrow.”
