2010 Bike Week
Ducati rocked Daytona Bike Week both on and off the track and kicked off the 2010 racing season with a bang. In its AMA Pro Racing debut, the Ducati 848 Superbike proved to be an extremely fast and reliable contender.
In the Daytona 200, a new era in Ducati competition began. For the first time in AMA Pro Racing’s Daytona Sportbike class, the Ducati 848 turned its wheels around the historic Daytona circuit. Of the six bikes entered, the results were staggering: a podium for the bike in its first time out proving itself an exceptional weapon for this class- especially considering many of the bikes were entered with little modification.
The podium finish in the prestigious Daytona 200 went to 2007 winner and Team Latus Motors Racing/MotoCorsa Ducati rider Steve Rapp. Rapp put in an excellent performance at the front of the pack, and led home the group of five 848s which finished in the top twenty positions.
Steve Rapp Speaks…
"The race was pretty easy and non-eventful, which is good," Said Rapp" We had good pit stops too. They probably weren’t the fastest but we didn’t make any mistakes and that’s all I can ask. I’m looking forward to the next race!"
In the Superbike class, rider Larry Pegram began his season with an impressive performance. Fighting to the checkered flag and finished on the podium behind Zemke and Hayden. It was a great start to the Foremost Insurance rider’s 2010 Superbike campaign, and he is looking forward to the next race at California’s Auto Club Speedway- a favorite track of his.
Larry Pegram Speaks…
"It was a great start to the season for us!" Said Pegram. "The bikes ran great and we were right there on speed. Daytona is always tough on tires so we lost a bit there, but otherwise things are perfect."
Action off the track was just as hot. Ducati Motorcycles of Daytona was the hub of activity all week. With the arrival of the Ducati Caffé , Ducati Art exposition, and the North American showroom debut of the Hypermotard EVO SP, 1198 S Corse Special Edition and 848 Dark. The highly anticipated bike week arrival of Ducati Multistrada 1200 S proved to be the highlight of off track attractions.
Ducati Motorcycles of Daytona was flooded with bike week attendees who wanted to see the Multistrada 1200 S up close for the first time, and they weren’t disappointed as it made its grande entrance at Daytona’s new Ducati flagship dealer.
Despite frigid temperatures droves of Ducatisti made it out to the Ocean Deck to view the Daytona 200 and kick off the 2010 racing season in style. The night was packed with excitement and special VIP appearances by Ducati MotoGP rider Nicky Hayden and Team Foremost Insurance rider Larry Pegram. The podium finish by Steve Rapp on the Latus Motors Racing/MotoCorsa Ducati 848 in the Daytona 200 topped off a night of celebration.
