What is it about author Melissa Holbrook Pierson? All will be revealed at the 2009 BMW MOA meet in Johnson City, Tennessee, where she will give a reading followed by a book signing. Pierson’s popular book, The Perfect Vehicle: What it is About Motorcycles, stands close to riders’ hearts as a perfect description of what it really is about motorcycles that enraptures and enthralls enthusiasts. Pierson’s book has put into words what every biker feels but is rarely able to express, especially to non-motorcyclists.
Pierson will be giving a reading of new writings Friday, July 17, at 11:00am at the BMW MOA 37th International Rally, taking place at the Appalachian Fairgrounds, Johnson City, Tennessee; check the MOA schedule of events for the specific location. Following her reading, Pierson will be signing books from 12:00-2:00 at the giant blue and white Metzeler truck.
Published by W.W. Norton & Company, The Perfect Vehicle: What it is About Motorcycles is available and admired around the world. Diverse in her pursuits, yet unable to title a book without a colon, Pierson also has two books published on other topics, The Place You Love is Gone: Progress Hits Home, 2007; and Dark Horses Black Beauties: Animals, Women, a Passion, 2001. In these books, respectively, Pierson turns her insightful eye to unveiling the endemic romance of sense-of-place, and the archetypal relationship between women and horses.
Yeah, but can she ride? Pierson will be arriving at the event, from her home in New York State, on her very own BMW K75. Stop by the reading or her signing at the Metzeler truck to see if Pierson has tats, if she can do a U-turn in a parking lot, if she can talk Heron heads and Earls forks, and if she’s for real.
