It seemed a fitting place for Roland Sands to crack out the RSD Super Hooligan on a short track built in the middle of downtown Austin. With the help of Indian Motorcycle, Revival cycles and Roland Sands Designs, they did something a little bit different, a little extravagant and something that turned plenty of heads.
Following 2016 Austin MotoGP, Team SUZUKI ECSTAR’s Viñales and Espargaró didn’t pack up and return to Europe like most riders; instead they hung around at Circuit of The Americas for a single day of testing.
Marquez’s weekend at COTA was absolutely flawless. He led all four free practices, qualified on pole, and earned the win by over six seconds ahead of Movistar Yamaha MotoGP’s Jorge Lorenzo. If you like close competition, the Grand Prix of the Americas at the Circuit of the Americas is not going to be on your list of great races in MotoGP history. Hayden found himself in a heated battle with Monster Energy Graves Yamaha’s Josh Hayes, a four-time AMA Superbike winner.
Marc Marquez continues his reputation as the king of Austin’s Circuit of the Americas. The 23-year-old Repsol Honda rider, who won every race there since 2013 from pole, led all free practices Friday and Saturday.
The two-time MotoGP Champion, who won last weekend in Argentina, was untouchable once again during Austin MotoGP qualifying 2016. Marquez had earned the Austin MotoGP pole – his second-consecutive after Termas de Rio Hondo in Argentina – with a 2:03.188 around the 3.4-mile Texas circuit containing 20 turns.
