Stage Two of 2012 Dakar took the motorcycle competitors on a timed route of 182 miles from Santa Rosa to San Rafael, Argentina, Monday.

And when those grueling miles were complete, it was Marc Coma who had the fastest time. But the three-time Dakar winner not only won Stage Two, he also grabbed the overall lead in 2012, which will take riders almost 5,200 miles from Argentina through Chile to Lima, Peru.

The reigning Dakar pilot of the MRW Red Bull AMV KTM 450 Rally finished Stage Two ahead of teammate Cyril Despres, who finished 1:18 behind, and Husqvarna’s Barreda Bort, who finished 2:33 behind.

With two of 14 stages complete, Coma now holds a lead of 2:30 over Stage One winner Francisco “Chaleco” Lopez. In third overall is the Frenchman Despres, who is 2:52 behind.
