Defending 450MX champion Jett Lawrence retook the lead in the 2026 AMA Pro Motocross 450 Championship Series with a 2-1 performance at the Unadilla National. Hunter Lawrence entered the 9th round of the 11-round series with a 12-point lead, and extended it to 15 points after winning the first moto. However, a second-moto crash while entering the infamous Screw U section at Unadilla MX damaged Hunter’s bike, resulting in a DNF. Jett won the second moto to tally 47 points on the day, giving Jett a 10-point lead with four motos to go.
Jorge Prado had a strong day, taking P2 overall with 3-2 finishes. Haiden Deegan upped his overall podium streak to four with a 4-3 day. Garrett Marchbanks rebounded from a zero-point performance at last week’s Washougal National to finish in P4, thanks to a 5-4 card. RJ Hampshire’s 6-8 rides were good enough for P5 overall.
Australia’s Jed Beaton finished in P7 overall, behind 2021 Pro Motocross 450 National Champion Dylan Ferrandis. It was Beaton’s second Pro Motocross race and first since 2023. 2020 Pro Motocross 450 National Champion Zach Osborne competed in a National for the first time since 2021, but narrowly failed to score a championship point.
Trailing Jett by 10 points, Hunter continues to control his own destiny in the series. If Hunter closes out the year with four moto wins, he will take the championship. Prior to his crash in Moto 2 at Unadilla, Hunter had won six of the previous eight motos. Deegan and Prado have not been mathematically eliminated from contention, though that could happen next week at the Budds Creek National.
