Pyramid Motorcycle Accessories of Gainsborough, England, has launched a line of Bell Custom 500 open-face helmets hand-painted to match five retro-styled motorcycles from Triumph, Yamaha, and Kawasaki. Each helmet is painted to order at Pyramid’s custom paint shop, sells for £600, and ships within about six weeks.
The launch collection covers five paint schemes:
Caspian Blue for the Triumph Speed 400
Legend Red for the Yamaha XSR900
Legend Blue for the Yamaha XSR900
Metallic Spark Black and Orange for the Kawasaki Z900RS SE
Metallic Red and Gold, incorporating Candytone Red, for the Kawasaki Z900RS
Each scheme takes its colors and graphics from the motorcycle it is named for, so the helmet and bike match at a glance. Underneath the paint is a stock Bell Custom 500 motorcycle helmet, with its familiar low-profile shape.

Pyramid does not use a standard mass-produced graphic. Every helmet is painted and finished by hand. The company says minor variations from one helmet to the next are a natural part of the process, so no two helmets in the same scheme will be exactly alike.

The Bell Custom 500’s open-face design is inspired by Bell’s first production helmet from 1954. It uses a fiberglass composite shell built in five shell sizes, keeping the helmet proportioned and low-profile across the XS through XXL sizing range. A medium weighs about 2.2 pounds.

Inside, the Custom 500 has a plush, contrast-stitched liner with quick-drying Ionic+ padding and a padded chin strap. An integrated five-snap pattern accepts compatible Bell peaks and faceshields. The Pyramid helmets are ECE-certified and do not carry DOT certification, which makes them technically for display only on American roads where riders must wear a helmet. Where you choose to display yours is your business.

In our second segment this episode Arthur Coldwells chats with Tony Bracalente, founder of Ryder-Gear. Tony is a Navy veteran and was a nuclear engineer on submarines; he’s also a frequent track rider and racer. He founded Ryder-Gear as a result of his own track riding needs, and after friends kept asking him to help them out with what they needed, he eventually started the company. Tony’s interesting background and story-telling ability gives some insight into what it takes to improve motorcycle safety both on the track, and on the street.
