MotoGP has released its 2027 schedule, a 22-round calendar that opens March 5-7 in Thailand and ends Nov. 26-28 in Valencia, Spain. Two venues are new: the Autódromo Oscar y Juan Gálvez in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and the Adelaide Street Circuit in South Australia. Two are gone: Balaton Park in Hungary and Phillip Island in Australia.
2027 MotoGP teams.
The 2027 season is the first under MotoGP’s new technical rules. Engine displacement drops from 1000cc to 850cc, and Pirelli replaces Michelin as the spec tire supplier.
Three rounds are not locked in. MotoGP lists the Argentina and Australia rounds as subject to homologation, the FIM’s approval of a new circuit for racing. The U.S. round at Circuit of the Americas is listed as subject to contract.

New Venues: Buenos Aires and Adelaide
Argentina returns after sitting out 2026, and it changes venues. Termas de Río Hondo, host of the Argentine round through 2025, is replaced by the Autódromo Oscar y Juan Gálvez in Buenos Aires, which last hosted a motorcycle Grand Prix in 1999. Buenos Aires is Round 4, April 9-11, one week after Brazil’s Round 3 in Goiânia. The two races make up a South American doubleheader, and MotoGP will hold its 2027 season launch in Rio de Janeiro.

Adelaide replaces Phillip Island, which has hosted every Australian Grand Prix since 1997. The race moves from late October to Nov. 12-14, making it the penultimate round. The track is a modified version of the Adelaide street circuit that Formula One used from 1985 through 1995.
Hungary Out, Aragon on Notice
The Hungarian Grand Prix is off the calendar after two seasons at Balaton Park. MotoGP says Hungary “continues to be an important destination for the championship” and that it is “committed to exploring future opportunities to return.”

MotorLand Aragón keeps its race for 2027 under a new agreement with the Government of Aragón. From 2028 through 2031, it becomes MotoGP’s official reserve circuit, with no guaranteed Grand Prix.
Qatar Returns to March
The 2026 Qatar Grand Prix was scheduled for April 10-12 and was postponed to Nov. 6-8 due to what MotoGP called the “ongoing geopolitical situation in the Middle East.” That move pushed Portimão and Valencia back one week each.

For 2027, Qatar is Round 2, March 12-14, one week after the Thailand opener. Brazil follows three weeks later.
The Circuit of the Americas round moves from late March to April 23-25. In 2026, Austin was Round 3, one week after Brazil. In 2027, it is Round 5, two weeks after Buenos Aires.
European Rounds Shuffled
Most European races hold their spots, with several changes in order:
Catalonia moves from May 15-17, where it followed Le Mans by one week, to June 11-13, two weeks after Mugello.
Ai Ogura is being closely pursued by Fabio Quartararo and Luca Marini.
Brno moves from June 19-21, ahead of Assen, to July 16-18. It follows the Sachsenring by one week and is the last race before the summer break.
The summer break is unchanged in length. Both years have four weeks between race Sundays, and both restart at Silverstone, now Aug. 13-15.
Austria and Aragon trade places. In 2026, Aragon ran in late August, and Austria followed Misano in September. In 2027, Austria runs Aug. 27-29, followed by Misano on Sept. 10-12 and Aragon on Sept. 17-19.
Portimão makes the biggest European move, from Round 21 on Nov. 20-22 to Round 17 on Oct. 1-3. It is now the last stop before the Asia-Pacific rounds instead of the second-to-last race of the season.
Asia-Pacific Swing and Finale
The 2026 overseas stretch runs from Japan to Indonesia, Australia, Malaysia, and Qatar from Oct. 2 through Nov. 8, ending in a triple-header.
In 2027, the triple-header comes first: Japan on Oct. 15-17, Malaysia on Oct. 22-24, and Indonesia on Oct. 29-31. Malaysia now sits between Japan and Indonesia, instead of following Australia. Two weeks later comes Adelaide, and two weeks after that, the Valencia finale.

Overall, the 2027 schedule has five doubleheaders and one triple-header. The 2026 calendar, as revised after the Qatar postponement, has seven doubleheaders and one triple-header.
The 2027 season is one week shorter, from the first race Sunday to the last. It runs March 7 to Nov. 28, compared with March 1 to Nov. 29 in 2026.

Tony is a Navy veteran and was a nuclear engineer on submarines; he’s also a frequent track rider and racer. Tony’s interesting background and story-telling ability gives some insight into what it takes to improve motorcycle safety both on the track, and on the street.
