2026 Indian Sport Scout RT Review: 11 Fast Facts

Last year, Indian brought us the highly revised Sport Scout, which featured a larger-displacement V-twin and an all-new frame. As it turned out, the name “Sport” was misplaced, as it’s not a sporty cruiser. Instead, the motorcycle is a perfectly capable urban cruiser. Knowing that gave us a head start on the 2026 Indian Sport Scout RT variant of the standard model, so we didn’t spend any time trying to find the “Sport” in the Scout. This time, it’s about the RT!

2026 Indian Sport Scout RT Review: Price

  1. Although RT has roots in Reise Tourer, the 2026 Indian Sport Scout RT is not a Road Tourer. While it does sport waterproof, lockable side cases that can hold 10 gallons of cargo, the ergonomics and lack of a proper windscreen do not support the Road Tourer concept. Sure, you can tour on anything. Honda made a 125cc touring bike in the 1960s. However, after a highway-based shakedown run, we quickly realized that putting hundreds of miles a day on the RT was not in the cards, even if the cases are color-matched to the bike. So, now that we’ve established that Sport and RT are marketing names rather than literal descriptions, let’s dive into what the SS RT is all about.

2026 Indian Sport Scout RT Review: Urban Motorcycle

  1. Urban commuters and suburban explorers will love this motorcycle. Indian stopped just short of overemphasizing style over substance by resisting the temptation to go overboard with ergonomics and put the rider in an unsustainable jackknife position; thank you, 6-inch bar risers. This makes it possible to ride the RT for hours in urban conditions, as you stop frequently at red lights and can relax. I was easily able to drain the 3.4-gallon tank from full to the invoking of the low-fuel warning light without a break. It doesn’t hurt that the motorcycle is also quite fun to ride, so much so that you don’t want to hop off.

  1. The SpeedPlus 1250 motor is a big source of the fun, and likely a marketer’s justification for the name Sport. Pull the SpeedPlus 1250 past 4000 rpm, and the short-stroke V-twin starts to wake up, building toward a 105 hp peak that arrives at 7250 rpm. Peak torque of 82 lb-ft comes at 6300 rpm, which means this motor likes to be wrung out. Twist the throttle open, and the comfortable seat will remind you why it’s stepped. What makes the SpeedPlus so livable is that it never feels thin in the bottom end. The muscle is there when you need it; the torque output is consistent from idle to redline, and the power builds linearly.

2026 Indian Sport Scout RT Review: Cruiser Tourer

  1. All the bells and whistles are standard on the 2026 Indian Sport Scout RT. While some Scouts come in various trims, every RT gets the top-shelf Limited +Tech treatment as standard equipment. Stock goodies include three ride modes, traction control, cruise control, keyless push-button ignition, and the high-end 4-inch round TFT touchscreen dash with Ride Command software.

  1. Ride mode choice matters. Sport mode sits at the top of the food chain. Twist the throttle, and the motor spins up fast, putting those 105 horses to work when you need to dart through a gap, clear an intersection, or rip the twisites. Happily, the power delivery stays smooth, so you’re not dealing with a snatchy throttle in traffic. Still, Standard mode is where I spend most of my city miles. The throttle response is crisp enough to gap traffic without requiring a heavy hand or much thought. Save Touring mode for a highway cruise home. Traction control gets progressively more sensitive as you step down through the modes. Certainly, TC can rescue you if you hit a slick urban hazard, though it never intervenes in a way that catches you off guard.

  1. The handling is sporty, but the ergonomics are not. The riding position is feet-forward cruiser through and through. The quarter fairing is more of a styling statement than a serious wind deterrent. However, the wide, flat-bend bars put you in the right frame of mind for spirited riding. In urban canyons, the Sport Scout feels natural and neutral, responding to inputs without drama. You can lean into corners with confidence thanks to the Metzeler Cruisetec tires. The tall 19-/16-inch wheelset delivers adequate cornering clearance, no more. As is Scout tradition, the shocks are built to a price point. If you can, budget for an upgrade from Öhlins, Fox, or Progressive suspension. Among the 2026 Scout family, this is the one with the most sporting intent, with the exception of the 101 Scout, which stands in a class of its own.

  1. The braking setup won’t win any technology awards. There is a 298mm disc on each wheel to slow you down. ABS does its job without any cornering sensitivity, mode linking, or adjustment options. The rear disc pulls genuine weight when things get urgent, and I gravitated toward the pedal more than the lever as the ride went on. A foot pushing down is just less work than working the brake lever and dealing with the asymmetrical single-disc front-end torque when slowing down. The Cruisetec tires do their part by gripping the pavement well, making every stop feel controlled rather than anxious.

  1. Although the side cases are small, they help make the argument for the 2026 Indian Sport Scout RT as a legitimate commuter bike. Even when the hard-side cases are stuffed, you don’t feel them on the 568-pound bike. The Sport Scout RT retains its urban fun factor while gaining the ability to carry cargo. The side cases aren’t huge, so bring your briefcase and laptop to the dealer to see if they’ll fit. The bags are also adequate for a weekend getaway if you get the RT itch and accept its limitations as a touring bike. The bags also work for runs to Erewhon for a $50 16-ounce bottle of Rose Vibes Bulgarian Rosewater.

  1. If you’re not a fan of the under-bar mirrors, don’t worry; there’s a fix. I like keeping tabs on the poor drivers behind me in city traffic, so mounting the bar-end mirrors in the drop positions doesn’t work for me. Fortunately, you can easily swap the mirrors and mount them in the upright position on the bar-ends. Alternatively, you can buy traditional stem mirrors and screw them into the threaded mounts on the clutch and brake perches.

  1. The TFT dash survived our test unscathed. We have had repeated problems with the software in Indian dashes, and not just the Scouts. Sometimes they freeze mid-ride; other times they reboot out of the blue. We’re pleased to report that during our RT test, we had no issues with the dash. We have definitely had a love/hate relationship with the Ride Command+ software. The display is impressive, and it offers plenty of useful features, including GPS. In the past, that was always soured by electronic gremlins. Regardless, it looks like Indian’s IT department may be making some headway.

  1. Forget the name and enjoy the ride. If you want a sporty Scout, get the 101 Scout, with its stronger motor, beefier suspension, and improved braking. Those looking to tour on a Scout will be better served by the taller windshield and pulled back handlebar on the Super Scout. However, if you’re looking for an urban Scout that is ready to do battle with traffic while also prepared to make errands fun, the 2026 Indian Sport Scout RT has made a name for itself.
