This is the year for the BMW F 900 XR to get updated to Euro 5+ emission standards. While we have our own EPA standards, we’re still along for the ride. BMW used the occasion as an opportunity to refresh the adventure-style sport-tourer. With that in mind, let’s see what’s new about the 2025 BMW F 900 XR.
- In addition to retuning the DOHC parallel twin to meet the requirements of European bureaucrats, BMW added a little something for riders. The 2025 BMW F 900 XR has changed the programming on the Dynamic mode for a more aggressive throttle response, while also making Dynamic mode standard.
- BMW’s cornering-aware traction control is standard on the new F 900 XR. To prevent the tires from skidding on deceleration, electronically controlled engine compression braking works with the clutch’s slipper function. Cornering-aware ABS returns.
- The new inverted fork is fully adjustable. That includes damping in both directions, along with spring preload.
- New wheels save about four pounds. The five-spoke wheels are cast aluminum.
- The 2025 BMW F 900 XR’s new battery is almost two pounds lighter than the previous unit. Also, a USB-C charging port is standard and placed on the right side of the fairing.
- Touring riders will be happy to hear the fairing is getting some assistance. A new windshield is claimed to increase rider comfort at speed by reducing buffeting. The height of the windscreen is adjustable by hand.
- Handguards and heated grips are now standard. These are features that touring riders will appreciate.
- The 2025 BMW F 900 XR gets an adaptive headlight. This will benefit riders who venture out after dark.
- The rear of the XR has been narrowed. The LED turn singles are better integrated.
- There are significant options available from BMW. You can get an Akrapovič muffler (2.6 pounds lighter), a 1.2-inch taller windshield, a one-inch higher seat, milled footpegs, a chin spoiler, a passenger seat cover for solo riders, plus lockable soft and hard side cases.
- The 2025 BMW F 900 XR has three color options. Racing Red is standard. The Triple Black version of the bike is Blackstorm Metallic (+$275), while the Sport edition is Lightwhite with Racingblue Metallic (+$375) and the chin fairing is standard. The base price of the new XR is $11,995.
